Christopher R. Owens, Dipl.O.M., L.Ac.

Christopher is a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and California licensed acupuncturist. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in Oriental Medicine. He received his Master’s degree from the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College, Berkeley. During his Master’s program, he had the honor of treating NCAA DIvision I athletes at UC Berkeley as well as the privilege to study abroad in Tianjin, China and in Shikoku, Japan. He has been an adjunct professor at ACCHS in Oakland, the Swedish Institute in NYC, and the Atlanta School of Massage. His first career as a performing artist spanned more than 20 years as a professional dancer, actor, and singer. During this time he had a dual career as a licensed massage therapist with a focus on both Orthopedic and Asian styles of massage including Chinese Medical Massage (Tuina), which led him to the study of acupuncture. His approach to Chinese Medicine is greatly influenced by his ongoing studies with Master Jeffrey Yuen, an unparalleled resource in the application of Classical Chinese Medicine. He has also been influenced by his studies of Orthopedic and Neurological approaches to acupuncture through his studies with Dr. Anthony Von der Muhll and Dr. Clayton Shiu, and Tung-style acupuncture with Dr. Henry McCann. In Chinese Medicine, body, mind, and spirit are inseparable - treating one without attention to the others can elicit incomplete results. In appreciation of this, Christopher strives to tailor treatments to individuals by seeking to understand each patient’s unique pattern and presentation.
